Lent: DAY 12

it was my sister's birthday today. so we had a makan in the house. mom was pretty considerate about the fact that i dont take meat. so she cooked lots of fish, crabs and prawn fritters. but there was some Ayamas roasted chicken to.

An auntie from kl who didnt know i was fasting put a piece of drumstick on my plate and said, "nah boy, better eat quick. or not i'll whack it for you."

'i cannot eat la. im not taking meat for lent,' i replied.

"oh really ah. then why you taking crabs and prawns?? cannot you know!!!"

"aiyoh, who said i was becoming a priest. i just not taking bak and chicken."

"ehhh cannotttt like tat.... if want to fast all also cannot eat one. makan sayur only!! never mind, i help you."

and she took my crabs and prawns away from me.

and ate it herself....KNN!!!

im dying....

this no meat diet is driving me crazy. life seems so meaningless when it comes to meal time. thank god for fish. at least there is some meat there.

3 days into the fasting, i begin to have ulcers on my tongue and mouth which makes chewing and speaking painfull. saw the doctor today and she said its some sort of viral infection. but im telling you its withdrawal sypmtoms. i think my tongue is going on strike until it taste meat again.

this afternoon i was having a 'energy deficient due to pork-less diet' nap when i dreamt of something like this:

the only difference was the damm pig in my dream was winking at me and and gave me the thumbs up. woke up with my pillow all drenched with my saliva.

this is going to be a loooongggg LENT.

i've made my mind.

im going to be a vegetarian for the entire length of Lent. for some people its no big deal but if you know me, its a real big PIG of a deal. i cant go thru a day without meat, especially pork. when i was a kid i used to dread fridays cause mom would only cook vegetables and fish. i rather go to bed empty stomach than to eat vegetables with rice.

why with the sudden religious zeal?? a month ago, i was reflecting about previous Lenten seasons and i realised that i've not gone thru one single Lenten season worthy enough to be mention. so i thought this time i'll make it a memorable one. ....and give up Pork.

its not easy if you hate vegetables and every single favourite food of yours has pork or chicken in it. wantan mee, char seoh peng, bak pau, roast pork, pork chop, yam ring, burger Ramli, KFC, Mcdonalds, chicken chop, satay etc....

temptations are everywhere man!!! i keep on forgetting that im a veg. last wednesday i was all hyped up about going to Machap to celebrate the end of the exams only to reliased that i cant take meat. this morning, i woke up thinking that i'll have wantan mee. crap...

its only the 2nd day of lent. 38 more days to go.

i dont know if im going to make it all the way but if i do the sales of pork in this country will go down by 20%.

post exams rantings

ahhh...exams are over. finals is in 3 weeks time but never so relieved that the semester exam is over. need the breathing space. it had been a hectic 3 weeks running up to the exam.

constant reading with the end no where in sight can be a little a taxing on the human spirit. out of the hundreds of pathophysiologies, aetiologies, clinical features, investigations and treatment of diseases, only a selected few will be chosen and pasted on the question paper according to the lecturers' whims and fancy. spot the questions you say?? well it aint like PMR and SPM where you can get a workbook of thai kuang book shop and mug the shit out of it. so how in the world do you read and store everything in your brain. and my brain is like a 4A6 computer. damm it!!! thats not even pentium technology yet man.

how isit possible for us to store all these information in our mind and then regurgitate it out when you are a full fledge doctor. for crying out loud if we have problems remembering stuff for exams, what about when you are actually practicing medicine.

what if its a life threatening condition?? what if there is a guy in critical condition with blood all over him and is dying in front of you. his family members are shouting incessantly, tugging at your lab coat, crying and asking you whats wrong. begging you to save him. what happens if the hard drive in your head crashes at that critical moment or goes "this is an illegal operation. shutting down program"??

HOW??!!!
